It always upsets me when my super intelligent daughter brings home Dum Dum suckers, Air Heads, or other treats for earning good grades. Dum Dum suckers and other treats that connote ignorance should, without question, be banned from schools.

The reason for this is that rendering them to children as a reward for competence, good behavior, or for any other reasons can destroy a child’s confidence, particularly when they are of age to discern that a “dum dum” or “airhead” is a label typically rendered to ignorant persons…

If school treats should imply anything about intellect, the implication should always be intelligence, i.e. Nerds, Smarties, and PayDays, with pay being the ultimate reward of the learned mind.
