Automated School, etc. Wake-up Calls and Inspirational Message App

There should be an automated school, etc. wake-up call app that schools and/or parents and others can utilize to literally and metaphorically awaken and inspire students, etc. Schools and/or parents and others should be capable of setting specific songs for daily alarms and creating play lists of inspirational music that would continue to play while the receiver is getting dressed and/or until they shut it off. Schools and/or others could send wake-up/motivational (spoken) greetings in lieu of or in addition to music.

The noted app should be capable of sending music to a cell phone or any television with streaming services and a timer. Schools could send the same wake-up call to all students on whatever qualifying devices parents have specified, i.e. students’ personal cell phones or televisions.

Parents, schools, and/or local law enforcement could additionally send alarms and/or texts to the cell phones of minors notifying them of nearing curfew and the necessity to report to their residences by those specific times. Parents and schools could additionally utilize the noted app to send alarms to students notifying them of dinner, homework, bath, and bed time, et cetera…

The noted app should be programmed to ration alarms based upon reasonable periods of time to prepare for and arrive to school and/or other localities based upon indicated start times of specific schools and/or other events.

Social Accountability Census and Requirements

A census should be conducted to determine the social status of all persons, specifically if all persons in a household or in any other living arrangement have appropriate sources of income and other vital resources, and a database should be created that would retain this acquired information. Every person on the planet should be accounted for or acknowledged in this database by synonymous demographic information, photographs and/or fingerprints, and Social Security numbers, all of which would be created for those lacking them. A system of the sort would make it easier to count and acquire resources for those in need everywhere in the world; it would additionally identify which agencies are providing resources to each individual.

The said should precede a movement to place all persons in the world in safe and habitable residences, in traditional and/or career-oriented educational programs, and into jobs and/or businesses of their own.

…The database should be capable of exemplifying information of persons on an individual basis, by their households, and by the communities in which they reside. It could additionally retain genetic or DNA samples for all persons or at least for those who are interested in locating displaced family members, i.e. persons from developing nations and/or who have been separated from their families during conflicts like civil wars…

The noted should be a joint venture of the Department of Labor, the Department of Health and Human Services, the Social Security Administration, and other synonymous agencies, and would pull from these sources to update information when necessary. Information for homeless persons would be reported to the prescribed database via homeless information management systems and other agencies that collect data on the homeless. Every individual would additionally be encouraged via email and/or correspondence that would be mailed via the United States Postal Service at least once per year to personally peruse their individual accounts and update the information when essential, or verify that automatically updated information is accurate.

Relevant agencies* would routinely monitor the database and/or the database would be designed to generate automated notices to those who do not have sufficient income and/or other vital resources; the notices would inform the subject individuals of available resources and where and how to apply for them, whether it’s education, employment, Social Security benefits, child care help, etc. *Representatives from relevant agencies would make live contact with those demonstrating need and help to connect said individuals with those resources that they are in need of.

…Though the census would be for all persons, it would really focus on unemployed adults and at-risk teens. All persons who are capable of working and who are not employed would be required to demonstrate that they are seeking employment (whether or not they’ve applied for unemployment benefits) and/or that they are enrolled or preparing to enroll in an educational program that would improve their employability…

The purpose of a social accountability census and social accountability requirements would be to at least and proactively improve the social/living conditions of all persons, and to at most nudge all persons into realizing their greatest potential or into becoming the very best versions of themselves. It would decrease commission or likelihood of commission of criminal acts via the prescribed interventions. Though the said would require an investment of federal and perhaps other funding, it would be just that, an investment that would yield a major return that would far exceed the investment once more or all persons are educated, and once all who are capable of working are working and once all persons are receiving some form of earnest income and contributing their fair share to self and global empowerment.

A Perpetual Crisis Intervention/Response System and Agency

There should be a perpetual crisis intervention/response system and agency that would be similar to though distinguishable from 911… that exists in all cities/states and intakes calls from the general public and intervenes to actually resolve crises that do not require EMS or law enforcement transports. The agency should additionally help to connect clients with stable resources, education, and employment, where essential. For example, the agency should deliver emergency groceries or grocery gift cards to needy households, pay for prescription medications that clients cannot afford, for transportation (transit or bus cards or gas), baby diapers and wipes, clothing, and essential furniture… The agency should additionally pay mortgages or rent and/or utilities in situations where clients are experiencing hardships due to loss of a job or a reduction in income, though clients should be required to enroll in an intensive employment search and/or enrichment program to curtail future need for the service.

Agency Shelters and Storage Facilities

The noted crisis intervention agency should have emergency shelters and storage facilities to house any and all homeless persons and any furniture and other belongings that they have.

The noted shelters should additionally have showers, kitchens and dining areas; and they should have computer labs where clients can perform employment searches, etc. They should additionally have ample parking space to accommodate homeless clients with cars.

A Homeless Hotline/Client Pick-up

The said agency should have a homeless hotline to which callers can be directed to request pick-up and transport to the agency’s emergency shelter. The agency should have recognizable vehicles or those bearing the agency’s name and logo that would retrieve homeless persons from the streets and from residences where they’ve been evicted or where there is insufficient space or any other social crisis in a relative’s or friend’s home where the individual is residing, particularly any crisis that is caused or exacerbated by the individual’s presence.

Clients without furniture and substantial belongings should be retrieved in agency cars. Clients with furniture should be retrieved in moving vans and/or trucks. The agencies should help clients to move/transport their furniture to the agency storage facilities where they would temporally reside until they get back onto feet. Any furniture left in storage areas after clients have left the program and/or after any periods by which they have agreed to retrieve it should be transferred to the site’s furniture store, which should sell the items to re-invest into the program and/or for disbursal to other exiting clients…

Emergency Childcare Facilities

A perpetual crisis intervention/response system and agency should additionally have emergency childcare facilities, both for shelter residents and qualifying members of the general public, or it should partner with such agencies.

Food Warehouses

A perpetual crisis intervention/response system should have its own food warehouses that would accept food and monetary donations. The noted warehouses would ideally be located at the Department of Human Services, to which the public could resort directly for emergency food.

Funding

A perpetual crisis intervention/response system and agency should have varied funders, including primarily private donors, i.e.  church and other corporate groups.

The said agency should collect said donations via a donation button on its website. Other funders should include federal and state governments, and employed clients, of course, who would be required to pay service fees based upon their income.

In Summation and Conclusion

A perpetual crisis intervention/response system and agency would alleviate and/or prevent escalation of crisis. It would additionally alleviate burdens on 911 and other emergency hotlines that typically require dispatching of EMS and/or law enforcement.

Kiosks Should Be Placed in Stores to Request Desired Products that Are Not In-store

I am always surprised when I hear of popular department stores closing or going out of business, especially when in most if not all instances it is because they simply do not have enough of the right products on the shelves. Stores should rely more on customers than their staffed buyers to select merchandise to market…

Kiosks that would link to the websites of all or the most popular brands carried by subject stores should be placed in stores for customers to request desired products that specific stores do not carry or that are not in-store. Customers should be capable of voting or requesting placement of products that they like into the brick-and-mortar stores where they shop…

Stores could additionally utilize sizable electronic galleries to display in-store and other merchandise of brands that they carry that are not in their stores. The noted merchandise would rotate amongst all or synonymous products on the websites of brands represented at the stores and customers would be prompted to vote on products that they’d like to see on the shelves.

Customers should additionally be capable of placing orders for shoes and clothing, etc. from the store kiosks and having the merchandise either shipped to the store, where they could try it prior to finalizing a purchase, or having the items shipped to their homes and/or other designated addresses, with each store earning a commission for all products sold via their kiosks…

…Placement of kiosks in stores for the said purposes would facilitate customer acquisition of products that they really like in that it would not be necessary to drive all over town searching for and often never finding those items. It would improve sales of desirable products that might not otherwise be seen by most potential customers and improve the performance of stores marketing those items…

A Review of my Blog!!!

One of my Linkedin connections created this review of my blog. I saw and saved it a while ago prior to his unpublishing it from his You Tube account. I actually thought this was rather awesome.

I am most definitely planning major improvements to this and my other blogs, and I am really flattered and appreciative of this.

Thanks again Mr. Nate Woodbury!!!

Brand Affiliate Designing Programs

Brands like Nike, etc. should have affiliate designing programs that would enable marketing of publicly designed shoes and clothing. This would resolve a major issue for brands, all of which struggle or are challenged at some point to come up with great product ideas.

Customers and/or anyone interested should be capable of designing for brands, celebrities, etc. utilizing varied styles of the brand or suggested logos, which should be available for said purposes on brand websites.

The following are samples of designs that I created actually several years ago now: Nike t-shirt designs, Team Lyfe Jennings t-shirt designs, Jordan Houston t-shirt designs,* Michael Vick t-shirt designs (*I designed and sent these to Jordan with an apology shortly after we became friends on Facebook for a while for hurting his feelings when he tried to date me in high school. Several of our classmates and others teased me about Jordan when learning of his infatuation with me, and my immaturity about the situation prompted me to say some things about the shag he sported at the time that I should not have said. Jordan turned out to be a handsome fellow, however. The first time I saw him on television was when some of my students at the Atlanta Job Corps Center saw him on ShowTime at the Apollo and were in an uproar in the lounge of the dormitory in which I was working. Several things have happened since my returning to Memphis from residing in Atlanta for roughly 20 years to indicate that perhaps Jordan still likes me, whether or not the boy who I was assigned to work with as a Shelby County Schools Substitute Educational Assistant at Houston High School kissing me was instructed by Jordan to do it. Being the Christian lady I am, I did not like the idea of someone who identified with Satan and who uses the language that Jordan uses in his music trying to date me. I dated other Memphis rappers who cursed and still curse in their music; though I’m still friends with those those guys, I am no longer into that sort of music or expression of the lifestyle that is depicted in it. Perhaps I was trying to change Jordan with the t-shirt designs, et cetera, when Jordan should just be himself…Jordan is free to implement the JHou Brand however).

Several brands already have product customization elements on their websites to enable customer personalization of clothing and shoes, etc. They do not allow public designers and/or customers to market their creations via the brand affiliate programs, however.Affiliates could create and/or input their designs into their own online stores, and brands could include the most popular public designs in their official collections on their websites, in their catalogs, and in the physical stores that market their products.

Enabling public designers to readily create and affiliate market their product designs for any brand would significantly increase brand sales and generate income for public designers based on the volume of sales of their created products, without necessity for the brands to formally hire them…

Students Should Have at Least Thirty Minutes from School Opening to Class Start and for Breakfast

All students should have at least thirty minutes from school opening to class start. Students should have sufficient time to report to school and to their classes from the time that the doors of their schools are opened. The few extra minutes that certain schools open prior to set times are beneficial, though they should not be rationed into the prescribed thirty minute period. For example, if a school is set to open at 8:00 a.m., though the doors of the school might open a few minutes prior to this time, students should have until 8:30 a.m. to acquire breakfast and/or report to class. In certain Shelby County Schools students must be in class by 8:15 a.m. if their school opens at 8:00 a.m.

Giving students a mere fifteen to twenty minutes to eat breakfast and report to class from the time that the doors of schools open is really unreasonable, in consideration of students who are driven to school and must wait for numerous cars ahead of them to drop their children off and in consideration of walking students who reside a significant distance from the schools who should not have to wait in cold or inclement weather for the doors of the schools to open to get their children to school on time.

Breakfast itself should last at least twenty minutes, and students should have sufficient time to use the lavatory to wash their hands… before and afterwards, and to exchange material from their lockers, if this is applicable.

Though my son typically has good attendance (and grades) and my daughter has had perfect attendance for nearly a month now (juxtapose her typical perfect grades) and we intend to keep up the momentum whether or not what I’m prescribing here is implemented, consideration should be given to students with varying circumstances who continue to be affected by the brief period of time that students are required to report to class from the opening of school doors.

A Facebook, etc. Friend-My-Neighbor App

Tags

,

We recently moved from an apartment complex where both of my children have lots of friends to a house in a much better area not far from the old neighborhood. My son in particular is having a bit of a challenge making new friends, and, against my wishes, regularly returns to visit with old neighbors in the apartment complex from which I moved him and my daughter out of concern for their safety. Many students from the schools my children attend and others reside on the street that we live on. My daughter quickly gravitates to other children, and has made several friends in the area, though she complains that she doesn’t have enough friends, or they do not come out and play with her frequently enough.

I and most parents, I’m certain, am concerned with my children having healthy social lives; I too, like any concerned parent, want sufficient information about my children’s friends and their parents and about my neighbors generally. I gave it serious thought and realized that Facebook is one of if not the very best platform for a solution…

A Facebook Friend-My-Neighbor app*would be a really great tool that would facilitate acquaintanceship and creation of friendships amongst neighbors who are Facebook account holders who might otherwise go for years without ever knowing each others’ names. *This could otherwise be a non-Facebook app, distinguishable from platforms like Nextdoor, which is essentially a neighborhood forum via which neighbors discuss local occurrences and/or query their neighbors about where to find the best of anything nearby that they need, and others like Apple’s Find my Friends App, via which it is possible to locate family members and already-known friends.

Facebook launched a Nearby Friends feature a few years ago that allows users to track nearby friends. Friend-My-Neighbor would be different from Nearby Friends and Facebook’s Friendshake in that it would focus on familiarizing users with their literal neighbors who they typically do not know, whether or not they are on the go…

Friend-My Neighbor would have age filters that would connect minors to their specific age group of neighbors and adults to their adult neighbors, or they would be capable of reading neighbors’ profiles to determine who shares like and ideally constructive interests…

Member profiles would include brief biographies indicating what their jobs or professions are and/or what schools they attend or have attended. They would further list hobbies and other interests, professional or other merited group affiliations, etc. and/or any other information that they’d wish to share…

Members would enter their addresses and other required information into the secured and private registration page. Addresses would be verified and updated when necessary, or when members have moved, though members could stay connected to any of their previous neighbors.

Once member addresses are verified via preferably automated electronic searches of records, members would be capable of seeing and connecting electronically and eventually in person with their selected neighbors.

Members could optionally elect to share or disclose their residential addresses and phone numbers to their neighbors, preferably the nearest, and invite select neighbors to gatherings or events that they are hosting or attending, i.e. a dinner or party, a neighborhood walk or meeting, a study group, or just to watch television and chit chat…

The noted app or feature would impactfully address a major social issue of our times, that of loneliness/boredom, which should never occur with an abundance of other human beings in the world; and in our quests for friendship and good company, we should first look to our very own neighbors…

SafeLink and Other Government-Issued Low Income Mobile Phones Should Issue Local Numbers

Safelink and all government-issued low income phones should issue local phone numbers to customers that are really based on the specific addresses/cities, states, and zip codes where they reside. Per Safelink/Tracfone, they do not offer phone numbers in the 901… area code, though they briefly issued me a number with a 901… area code that I changed after this particular number was “transferred to another device” that didn’t belong to me, without my permission.

The incident really perked my antennas—I reflected on a question that I was asked that I could not answer while completing my income tax return this year via Turbo Tax about a residence* on “Camp Ground Road,” where I have never resided.

(*Despite our recent move from 4050 Camelot Lane, Apt. #3 to a house several streets over, we are still in the same 38118 area code in Memphis, Tennessee). I further considered other matters that have prompted me to believe that I am a victim of identity theft, and thought of how attachment of the erroneous 662 area code to my Safelink phone could make matters worse…

Issuance of long distance area codes to Safelink and other government-issued low income mobile phones raises a number of issues; for one, it is a misrepresentation of information, and it heightens the potential for identity theft…

It can additionally and significantly increase long distance charges on clients’ residential phones, when family and/or others make calls to the Safelink or other government-issued mobile phones from their home phones.

This was my own personal experience—My children made a number of calls from our home phone to the Safelink phone that I had, and when we received our home phone bill it was inundated with costly charges for calls made to the Safelink phone that, according to the bill, was an Olive Branch, Mississippi number, noting that I’ve never resided in Olive Branch, Mississippi…

Attaching long distance phone numbers to Safelink and other government-issued low income mobile phones essentially defeats the purpose of the program, which is or should be to decrease the telephonic costs of qualifying participants.

All Students Should Be Using Khan Academy

I signed my son up for another round of ACT Prep at the University of Memphis to be certain that he’s prepared for the test, which will be administered at his school in the next few weeks.

When the success coaches announced requirement to sign up for practice on the Khan Academy website, my second-grade daughter, who was in attendance with us, took note and instantly signed herself up on her tablet.

She has completed several lessons in her grade and is making great progress on material that they’re not presently working on at her school. She loves it, clearly because it is technology-based and, perhaps, because of the visual and sound effects that it makes when she gets her answers right. For this I second my thumbs up and recommendation of this program.

Khan Academy is an excellent resource for students who are struggling in any particular area and/or who want to practice or familiarize themselves with new material for their current or forward grade levels and/or material in any previous grades that they might need to revisit.

I’m discussing my son’s progress in ACT Prep University and on Khan Academy in a future post. If you have school-age children, especially one who plans to take the ACT and/or SAT test, don’t hesitate to sign them up on Khan Academy for practice. It is maneuverable on a smart phone or tablet, and, best of all, it’s free!!!
