Training material should be created and utilized by all correctional facilities for the stated purposes; synonymous officials at each correctional facility should host routine interactive lectures discussing the issues with current and in-coming detainees, who would be formally tested on what they have learned.
Every detainee should be required to write an entrance essay discussing why they have been incarcerated and goals for self-improvement. Each detainee should additionally be required to write an exit essay discussing what they have learned in detention and why it is important to obey the law. These essays would become a part of each detainee’s file and exit portfolio, which would otherwise consist of their resumes, master job applications, and cover letters for specific employment opportunities of interest to them.
The stated would deter recidivism and discourage detainees from committing other crimes that they might be susceptible to committing. Completion certificates for the stated courses, besides High School Equivalency (HiSET) and General Equivalency Diplomas (GEDs) and acquired collegiate and technical degrees, would further help to improve employability and quality of life for both detained and released subjects…
