I purchased a printer for my computers a while ago. I have not replaced my ink cartridge in a while, however. Accordingly, I have been printing at either FedEx Kinkos (where I’ve been privy to a substantial employee discount) or the local library. Though printing at the local library is more expensive than printing at FedEx Kinkos, with or without my employee discount, it is more convenient and preferable to print documents at the local library because it is closer to home (and typically there is a public library closer to most of us than FedEx Kinkos)…
A major issue that I and other library users have had is having to go out of the way to retrieve cash for printing because library printers do not accept debit/credit cards. Library patrons should not have to drive to an ATM machine or store to retrieve cash for printing.
It should be practical to swipe one’s credit or debit card to pay for prints, like it is practical at FedEx Kinkos. Public libraries should in fact acquire similar self-serve payment/printing devices that FedEx Kinkos utilizes.
Enabling utilization of debit/credit cards for printing at public libraries would resolve a significant challenge for most library patrons while helping to decrease unnecessary vehicular trips and synonymous risks.
